Episode, Zwischenspiel, meist nur im epischen Gedichte und Romane; Erzählung oder Darstellung einer Begebenheit oder eines Gegenstandes, die nicht wesentlich zum Ganzen gehören, die aber im strengkünstlerischen Sinne nicht bloß als Lückenbüßer und Nothbehelf angebracht werden dürfen. Im Drama stört die Episode, weil sie den Gang aufhält, und ist nur verzeihlich, wenn sie zur Nüancirung dient.
