Absolution. Dieses Wort bedeutet die priesterliche Zusage oder Versicherung, daß Gott dem, der die begangenen Sünden bereuet, an Christum glaubet und fortan sich bessert, väterlich vergeben wolle. In den frühesten Zeiten war die Absolution mehr ein weitumfassender Gerichtsspruch, durch welchen einer ganzen Gemeinde die verwirkte Kirchenstrafe erlassen wurde.
