Association, im Allgemeinen jede gesellige Vereinigung, vorzugsweise aber die unwillkürliche Verbindung von Vorstellungen des menschlichen Geistes. (Association der Ideen). Es ist nämlich eine Eigenthümlichkeit desselben, einer Hauptidee eine Menge Nebengedanken anzureihen, und selbige bald als Spiele des Witzes, bald als Bilder und Gleichnisse, bald als Ahnungen und Träume, mit dieser zu verschmelzen. Je reichhaltiger und lebhafter unsere Phantasie und unser Gedächtniß ist. desto zahlreicher, bunter und mannichfaltiger werden diese Kinder der Laune und des Zufalls aus dem Räthselschooße des Gemüthes emporsprossen.
