Hyacinthus (Mythologie). Des Oebalos und der Muse Klio Sohn, von Apollon zärtlich geliebt, der sich herabließ, an den Spielen des schönen Knaben Theil zu nehmen. Einst beim Diskuswerfen lenkt Zephyros, der den Hyacinth selbst liebte und sich verschmäht sah, den Diskus des Musengottes gegen die Stirn des Götterlieblings, und dieser starb an der empfangenen Wunde. Trauernd ließ Apollon aus dem Blute des Getödteten eine Blume sprießen, auf deren Blätter er den Klagelaut A I schrieb. Diese Blume ist aber nicht unsere Hyacinthe, sondern soll der gemeine Schwertel oder die Siegwurz gewesen sein. Noch mehr für sich aber hat die Meinung, daß es das Delphinium Ajacis sei.
