Doctrinaire

Doctrinaire hießen in der französischen Deputirtenkammer seit 1818 die Anhänger des Ministeriums Decazes, deren Streben dahin ging, zwischen der Demokratie und der Monarchie vermittelnd aufzutreten und die sich bemühten, eben so fern von der unumschränkten Gewalt, als von der Revolution zu bleiben. Sie nannten sich die unabhängigen, unbestechlichen Freunde der Regierung, wurden aber von den heftigen Royalisten gestürzt und traten zur Opposition über. Auch das neuere Ministerium Frankreichs belegt man mit diesem Namen. Sie erhielten ihn darum, weil sie ihr System mehr auf philosophische Principien als auf die Erfahrung, die Praxis, stützten.
