Confession

Confession, Bekenntniß, daher vorzüglich in religiöser Hinsicht, das Glaubensbekenntniß. Man bezeichnet mit diesem Worte gewöhnlich die Urkunde, welche eine religiöse Partei als die Grundlage ihres Glaubens und Lehrens aufstellt, so wie auch diese Parteien selbst, als reformirte, evangelische Confession. Unter der augsburgischen Confession versteht man das Glaubensbekenntniß, welches die Anhänger der Kirchenverbesserung den zu Augsburg versammelten Ständen vorlegten und vorlasen.
