Cloud, St., Marktflecken an der Seine zwischen Paris und Versailles, mit 200 Häusern und 1300 Einwohnern. Hier ist ein prachtvolles königliches Lustschloß mit einem reizenden Park; hier wurde Heinrich III. durch Clement ermordet, hier hielt Napoleon sein prächtiges Hoflager, und hier haben die Pariser ihre schönsten Landhäuser. – Zum Feste des heil. Chlodoald strömt die halbe Bevölkerung von Paris nach St. Cloud und ergötzt sich theils durch Ausflüge in die reizenden Umgebungen, theils an Schaustellungen, Feuerwerken, Theater im Freien etc. Der letzte Sonntag des Festes heißt darum auch der schöne Sonntag; zu dieser Zeit ist den Besuchenden auch der Park geöffnet und die Wasserkünste spielen, indem sich die Fluth in zunehmender Breite über 6 hohe Absätze in großer Masse in das Thal stürzt und eine reizende Cascade bildet. Im obern Theile des Parks auf dem Gipfel eines Hügels steht ein hoher Thurm, die Diogeneslaterne genannt, von der man eine imposante Aussicht über Paris und die reizende Landschaft hat.
